SignBridge AI : Real-Time Bidirectional Communication Assistant for Deaf and Hearing Communities
Built by Pt All things
SignBridge AI is a smart communication assistant designed to bridge the gap between deaf, hearing-impaired, speech-impaired, and hearing individuals. The project aims to make everyday conversations more natural by enabling seamless two-way communication without requiring either person to know sign language. The system uses a camera to capture sign language gestures, which are recognized using AI-based computer vision and instantly converted into readable text and optional voice output. At the same time, spoken language is captured through a microphone and converted into real-time text displayed on a screen, allowing deaf users to follow conversations naturally. This creates a live, bidirectional communication experience that is fast, intuitive, and accessible. The **Arduino Uno Q** serves as the central hardware controller, managing the display, microphone interface, LEDs, vibration motor, and user interaction. It also provides visual and haptic alerts for important notifications such as emergency keywords, incoming conversations, or system status. AI-based sign recognition and speech processing are performed by a connected edge device or computer during the prototype stage, allowing the Arduino Uno Q to focus on reliable hardware control and real-time interaction. Future versions will integrate offline edge AI directly into the device, reducing dependence on external computing while improving privacy and portability. Additional planned features include speaker identification, conversation history, multilingual translation, customizable text size, and wearable integration such as smart glasses. SignBridge AI is designed for classrooms, hospitals, government offices, workplaces, transportation hubs, and everyday public interactions. Rather than being just another translation tool, it aims to become an intelligent communication companion that empowers people with hearing or speech disabilities to communicate confidently, independently, and without barriers.
